Healthy Fruit Smoothies

Recently I have been experimenting with smoothies. I love smoothies. They are pretty easy to make and really healthy for you if you add the right stuff. I have been using both fruits and vegetables. Here are some of my favorite fruit smoothie recipes that I found online. (Vege Smoothies to follow.)

Raspberry-Avocado Smoothie

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 cup raspberry juice
  • 1/2 cup frozen raspberries, (not thawed)
  • PREPARATION

    1. Puree avocado, orange juice, raspberry juice and raspberries in a blender until smooth.

  • Wake-Up Smoothie

    INGREDIENTS
    • 1 1/4 cups orange juice, preferably calcium-fortified
    • 1 banana
    • 1 1/4 cups frozen berries, such as raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and/or strawberries
    • 1/2 cup low-fat silken tofu, or low-fat plain yogurt
    • 1 tablespoon sugar, or Splenda Granular (optional)
    • PREPARATION
    1. Combine orange juice, banana, berries, tofu (or yogurt) and sugar (or Splenda), if using, in a blender; cover and blend until creamy. Serve immediately.

  • Banana-Cocoa Soy Smoothie

    INGREDIENTS

    • 1 banana
    • 1/2 cup silken tofu
    • 1/2 cup soymilk
    • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 tablespoon honey
    • PREPARATION

      1. Slice banana and freeze until firm. Blend tofu, soymilk, cocoa and honey in a blender until smooth. With the motor running, add the banana slices through the hole in the lid and continue to puree until smooth.

      Banana Honey Breakfast Blast:

      Ingredients

1/2 cups Vanilla Soy Milk (or regular reduced fat milk)
      2 large bananas
1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
      1/4 cup honey
      1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
      1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

       Preparation:

Chuck everything in the blender, blend for about 30 seconds or until it's nice and smooth. Serve with a little sprinkle of nutmeg for looks.

      Blueberry Protein Smoothie

      Ingredients

      1 cup fresh blueberries
      2/3 cup fat free milk
1/2 cup silken tofu (About 4 oz)
      2 tablespoons raspberry preserves
1 (6 oz) container of Raspberry low fat yogurt

      Preparation

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Process until smooth. If you like your smoothie thicker, add some crushed ice cubes.

    4. These look amazing! I was really into protein smoothies (protein powder) before I got pregnant... but now I cannot stomach the protein powder. I'm definitely going to try the silken tofu. Does it mix well?

      1. Yes, silken tofu is made for smoothies and shake type foods. I like it. You can't taste the tofu with the other flavors really.

    5. My sissy gave me a recipe for a smoothie called the Monster. It had spinach in it. I am not sure who she thought she was talking to when she gave it to me.
