The 5th Dress.

It's strange how one dress can change everything.
Wedding planning has been a tad difficult. Not because anything is going wrong.
Quite the contrary.
Only because we have so many other things going on as well.
I seemed to have lost motivation for wedding details.
I've been putting things off and procrastinating as much as time will allow me to.
But the time had come to find a dress.

My mother and oldest sister came with me to try on wedding dresses.
I was looking forward to this and dreading it all at the same time.
I wanted to find the glorious gown that I would walk down the aisle in.
But I was afraid I might not find it.
We struck out in the first wedding shop. They were all very traditional and not what I was going for at all.
The second place had more what I was looking for. A vintage feel of some sort.
I tried on 5 dresses. All of them were wonderful and I loved them each in different ways.
But each of them were missing something that was truly essential to me.
Train isn't long enough.
It's not the exact material I had in mind.
Beautiful back, not flattering in the front.
Almost perfect....but not quite.
My mother assured me that they were all very beautiful.
And then....I tried on the 5th dress. Oh dear sweet number 5.
When I saw it on the hanger, I wasn't impressed.
But as soon as my consultant laced up the back, and I took those first few steps out....
My Mother stood with tears in her eyes. I knew that it was the one.
This was confirmed by my sister's tears.
The veil was added and I walked down the hall of mirrors in awe.
Yes, Dress number 5 was made for me.
Now, of course I cannot show you the actual dress. But let me show you a runner up. Stunning eh? Well let's just say the dress that I did pick, outshines this one, by far!
Suddenly, I am more and more excited to plan this wedding.
Thank you dress number 5 for filling me with elation and motivation.

  8. I am sure it is beautiful. The way you write about it, you might want to pick up and read "The Secret Lives of Dresses" I know you are short on time, but I bet you would really like that book.

  14. ahh :) how exciting!! i am so sad i never got to experience the mother/sisters trip to pick out my wedding gown... my wedding was so rushed that no one was able to get to Massachusetts to come wedding dress shopping with me, so i went alone and bought my dress alone... i would never wish that on anyone! (i did seriously LOVE my dress though! and even re-did it to suit my style even better! a little embellishment here and an added homemade teastained sash there and it was perfect!... and my mother made my cathedral length veil for me :) so that was super special! )

found you on the wiegands this morning :) new follower!

    xo!
