Little Reminders.

A million things happened this weekend. It started off good. My family came from Massachusetts to visit for the weekend. We spent some time by the pool, relaxed and swam. We went to dinner reservations downtown at a lovely restaurant called "Sperry's" and then walked around window shopping. We ended our night with some Gelato therapy and movies. It seemed like the start to a perfect weekend.
Scarlett seemed out of sorts all day. I blamed it on lots of sun and no naps. But when we brought her home around 9 pm on Saturday, I could tell it was more than sun that was bothering her. It brought me right back to when she was very sick at 6 weeks old. I got on the phone with her doctor. I'm just not the type to take chances. By the time it took me to strip her clothes, get a cold cloth and grab some Tylenol, her fever spiked and she started having a febrile seizure. The scariest 4 minutes I've ever experienced. Thank God for the doctor on the phone who talked me through it. Ty called 911 and before we knew it, I was riding in the back of an ambulance with my poor little girl, Ty following behind us.

The ER doctors assured me it was only due to her rapid fever, and surprisingly, very common in babies. They generally outgrow them but are more prone to them once they have had one. After some Tylenol and Motrin, her fever reduced and she snapped out of her lethargic daze. She started crying. I never thought I would be happy to hear her cry.
I was in tears with delight because this meant she was okay.
My baby held her arms for me and I scooped her naked body up from the hospital bed. As she lay content on my chest, I said a prayer thanking God for the outcome.

Sometimes, life goes by and you forget how precious it is. God has little reminders for this. Like last night. Although it wasn't as dangerous as it seemed, it was scary enough to remind me, once again, to cherish each moment. To live it to the fullest. We, as humans, need reminders. I held her body close to mine and melted into her. It is amazing how before she was born, how selfish I was.  Without even knowing it, I was consumed with me. Now, Scarlett is my world. I live for her. I would undeniably and without a second thought, give up my life for her. Such a strong bond that God gave mother's for their babies.

The next day, our weekend picked up right where it left off. Scarlett was feeling better so we continued on our weekend, taking it easy but still having fun inside with some games, laughter and pool time. I hope you all had a great weekend!
I know we enjoyed our family visit very much.
And of course, again.....Monday is here.
But I go about it with the little reminder that we are happy, healthy and have life & love.

  9. I can completely relate! I know you must have been terrified! My little Molly had one right before she was 5 months. And now, every time she gets the slightest bit sick I go right back to that day, that moment. I'm so glad she bounced back so quickly! She's a precious one :)
