Hardest Job Ever.

So.....it's known that I am not the best cook.

I don't mind cleaning. I love having a clean house with candles burning. I love to decorate and redecorate and I even enjoy folding laundry and putting it away. I just cannot get myself to like cooking.

I hate everything about it. I despise buying it, I dislike putting it in the car, lugging it inside the house, and I hate putting it away. I only like eating it.

I'm not sure why I don't like cooking. Probably because it takes so long and it's gone in about 20 minutes.
But, I am a stay at home mom now so I figured I should at least try to cook. I decided I would cook a mini Thanksgiving Meal. I am in love with green bean casserole, and since I didn't get to eat it this Thanksgiving, I figured, 'What the heck, I'll make it.'

So, I ran around like a crazy person all day so I could get things done in time to make dinner. I am relatively new at this whole homemaker thing. I don't know how you mommies of 2 or more do it! Although, I am up for the challenge.
I got all of my ingredients and started prepping as soon as Ty texted me he was on his way home.

Well, I almost dumped 1 2/3  cup milk in the green bean casserole instead of 2/3 cup. How confusing are measuring cups?

Then, I had to figure out how I was going to cook the sweet potatoes in the oven on 400 for 45 minutes and the casserole at 350 for a half hour. Hmmm....

I decided I would cook the potatoes for 30 min on 400 and then turn it down to 350 for the casserole and just keep the potatoes in 15 min longer than directed......So confusing.

Oh! And don't forget the rolls! On 400 for 8 minutes. A glass of wine was in order before dinner was  even served.

Then I continued making the stuffing and setting the table, all while dancing to Christmas music to entertain my little observer, Scarlett.

Of course you cannot get anything done when there is a hungry baby on hands. I dropped everything else to put the munchkin in her highchair and give her pear in her fresh food feeder.

So everything is going smooth. Then, I realize, I have no meat. lol. Only a former vegetarian would plan a Thanksgiving-type meal with no meat! I say forget it and call Ty to pick up one of those roasted (all ready cooked) turkeys under the warmers.

He does.

Well, my meal didn't come out exactly as planned but I was surprised that everything tasted good and we enjoyed a great meal over wine and beer. Ty was happy that he didn't have to cook a meal after a long day's work. That made me happy, too.

I am not a Julia child.
I still hate cooking.

But, I am trying everyday to get better at helping out in the kitchen. Soon I will have to cook nutritious meals for my Peanut Baby so I might as well start now.

How do you Mamas out there manage everything? Props to you all.
Let me just say, I've had quite a few jobs and being a "Stay at Home Mom" is definitely the hardest job I've ever done. No one can understand that until they are one.

And, I won't forget to mention, it's the best job! Sending my love to all you Stay At Home Mom's out there! God Bless! :)

  2. Agreed. Being a mom is a full time job, anyone that says otherwise is a liar. It takes a little patience, practice and skill. I constantly wonder how my parents did it, day in and day out with at any given time 8-12 kids in the house, but I think now that i have been nannying again I get it. It's tough, and trying but the smiles and laughs and hugs and All the stuff these kids teach me everyday is payment enough.

  3. Yes Stacy, your parents are and were incredible people. How they did it, I don't know. And yes Liz, it is a struggle. I hope Baby Eva gives you a break soon!

  4. There's no doubt that being a mom is really, really tough. There's no other role in life that needs so much dedication and commitment, where you spend virtually all your time thinking about others.
